Eligibility
Students must commit to attending all 8 sessions of the seminar. Sessions take place Fridays between February 11 and April 8, with no meeting on February 25. Class meets from 9:30 am to noon, with a catered lunch from noon to 1:00 pm. The first and last sessions run from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm. Additionally, seminar participants will spend one additional day per week at the Newberry pursuing their own hands-on archival processing projects. For students outside of the Chicago area, that extra day would ideally be a Thursday or a Saturday.
Full attendance is a requirement in order to be considered for this opportunity.
Accessibility
The Newberry Library has gender neutral and wheelchair accessible restrooms on the first floor. The building has a lift near the front entrance and two additional wheelchair accessible entrances on the north side of the building. Organizers can provide adjustable-height desks upon request.

Stipend, Housing, and Course Credit
All selected applicants will receive a $500 award. In addition, students traveling from outside Chicago will receive up to $1,000 for transportation costs.
Lunch will be provided at each seminar meeting.
The Newberry Library will also provide one night accommodations per seminar for students traveling from outside Chicago. Students must commit to attending all 8 sessions.
If students seek course credit toward their doctoral degree, they should enroll in the course as an independent study, under the direction of an advisor who understands that the course would be beneficial to his or her advisee’s graduate study. If needed, Newberry faculty is happy to write on the students’ behalf explaining the content and benefits of the course.
